Lysander Mk III SD (Special Duties). V9367 B MA is one of only two airworthy Lysander aircraft and is based at the Shuttleworth Collection at Biggleswade. The SD version was employed by 161 RAF Squadron on clandestine night flying operations from RAF Tempsford and Tangmere between 1943 and 1945. Painted black and with all non-essential equipment removed, the aircraft was fitted with a fixed ladder to allow agents rapid access to the rear cockpit when they were picked up. Also, a 150 gallon long range fuel tank was attached below the fuselage. The short landing and take off capability made the Lysander an ideal aircraft for these operations and the pilots showed breathtaking skills of dead reckoning navigation in moonlit conditions, often having to land in fields lit by oil lamps.

This painting was exhibited at the  2016 ‘Aviation Paintings of the Year’ exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.
